Change Your Course

Matthew 11:28–29
Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

There is a dangerous confidence that can quietly settle into the human heart. It is the assumption that we know better, that our course is wiser, that our timing is superior. Yet Jesus did not only say, Come unto Me. He also said, Take My yoke upon you. In His day, a younger ox was fastened to a stronger, seasoned one. The younger did not choose the direction. It learned the path by yielding to the lead. The yoke was not punishment. It was protection.

You know the exchange that has been told for years.

“Sir, there is a light ahead. Oncoming vessel.”

“Signal them. Change your course ten degrees west.”

Back comes the reply.
“Change your course ten degrees east.”

The voice grows firmer.
“Change your course ten degrees west. I am an admiral.”

The answer flashes again.
“Change your course ten degrees east. I am a seaman third class.”

Authority is pressed.
“Change your course ten degrees west. I am a battleship.”

Then comes the final word.
“Change your course ten degrees east. I am a lighthouse.”

The lighthouse does not move. It does not adjust for rank or reputation. It stands fixed. The ship must turn or be destroyed.

So it is with the Lord. His truth does not bend to our preferences. His righteousness does not shift to accommodate our plans. We can argue. We can insist. We can justify. But He remains steady and sure. The safest decision we will ever make is to humble ourselves, change our course, and let Him lead.
