Isaiah gives us a song for a future day:
“In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah; We have a strong city; salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwarks. Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
Isaiah 26:1–3
It is a picture of security. A strong city. Not protected by steel or strategy, but by salvation itself. God is the wall. God is the defense. God is the stability.
And then comes the promise: “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace.”
The literal rendering is even stronger: peace, peace. Double peace.
Why double?
Because as believers we have two kinds of peace.
First, peace with God. Romans 5:1 says, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” That is positional. That is settled. When Jesus died for our sins and rose again, the war between us and God ended. The hostility was removed at the cross. That peace does not fluctuate with your emotions.
But there is also the peace of God.
That is experiential. That is daily. That is the calm that settles in when your mind is stayed on Him.
Stayed means fixed, leaned upon, supported. Like a beam resting on a foundation. Like a compass needle that keeps swinging back to north. When your mind is anchored to the character of God, you experience peace beyond circumstances.
A city with strong walls does not panic every time wind hits the gates. The walls hold. But if you live outside the walls, every sound feels like danger. Salvation brings you inside the city. Trust keeps you resting there.
The verse says the key is trust. “Because he trusteth in thee.”
Not because circumstances are smooth.
Not because problems vanish.
But because confidence is placed in the right Person.
Humanity has built walls of wealth, education, power, and technology. Yet anxiety increases. Why? Because peace is not produced by stronger walls. It is produced by reconciliation with God and reliance upon Him. Only Christ provides peace with God. Only a mind fixed on Him provides the peace of God.
Double peace.
Peace with God through the cross.
Peace of God through trust.
Stay your mind on Him.
Lean your weight on Him.
Trust Him.
And He will keep you in peace, peace.
