The Desert Degree – Galatians 1:13–17

Galatians 1:13–17

Paul says, “You’ve heard my story.” He was not casually religious. He was intense. He persecuted the church and advanced beyond his peers (Galatians 1:13–14; Philippians 3:5–6). He thought he was defending God.

But then grace intervened.

Galatians 1:15–16 says it pleased God to reveal His Son in him. Before Paul ever preached Christ, Christ was revealed to Paul. The calling was there long before the conversion was.

And what did God do after saving him?

He sent him into Arabia.

Not to Jerusalem for endorsement. Not to the apostles for approval. God took him away from the noise so He could build him in the quiet. Paul received a different kind of D.D. – a Doctorate of the Desert.

Moses had one before leading Israel (Exodus 3:1). John the Baptist grew in the wilderness (Luke 1:80). Jesus was led into the wilderness before beginning His ministry (Matthew 4:1). John saw the risen Christ while exiled on Patmos (Revelation 1:9).

God often does His deepest work in hidden seasons.

We assume growth happens when we are visible and useful. But roots grow underground. A tree that reaches high into the sky must first go deep into unseen soil.

If you are in a season that feels dry or isolating, it may not be a setback. It may be preparation. The desert is not where God forgets you. It is often where He reveals Himself to you.

So instead of resisting the quiet, lean into it. Let Him speak. Let Him shape you. What feels like isolation may become the very place where Christ becomes clearest.
