Ephesians 6:18
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.
After the helmet.
After the sword.
After the shield.
Paul says, Pray.
You may not always be able to engage in hand to hand combat. Your children may live across the country. Your neighbor may not return your calls. A missionary may labor on the other side of the globe.
But distance does not limit prayer.
Prayer travels where you cannot.
You can kneel in your living room and stand beside a missionary in Asia. You can whisper a name before the Lord and send strength into a hospital room. You can carry a prodigal son into the throne room of heaven even if he will not step into your house.
Prayer is long range artillery.
A soldier on the front line depends on support from beyond what he can see. Supplies. Reinforcements. Covering fire. Without it, he is exposed.
So it is in the body of Christ.
When you pray for all saints, you join the battle even if you never leave your chair.
Notice the words always. All prayer. All perseverance. For all saints.
Persistent.
Comprehensive.
Unselfish.
Watching means staying alert. Not drifting. Not sleeping spiritually. Prayer is not passive. It is vigilant.
Picture a battlefield at night. One soldier stands guard while others rest. Eyes scanning the horizon. Listening for movement. Ready to sound the alarm.
That is prayer.
Even when you cannot speak to someone directly, you can speak to the Lord about them. And when you speak to Him, heaven moves.
You may feel small.
You may feel removed.
You may feel unable.
But on your knees, you are never powerless.
Long range power.
