Colossians 1:20, 21
And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled.
Reconcile.
It is a simple word.
If we agreed to meet at 7:45, and our watches were off by five minutes, we would miss each other. The solution would not be for time itself to change. The solution would be for our watches to be adjusted until they matched the standard.
That is reconciliation.
God did not change His clock.
We were the ones out of sync.
Paul says peace was made through the blood of His cross. Peace was not negotiated. It was purchased. The cost was not small talk or compromise. It was blood.
Not temporary ceasefire. Not fragile truce.
Peace.
And the direction of reconciliation matters.
We are reconciled to God.
Not God to us.
He did not lower His holiness.
He did not soften His justice.
He did not adjust His righteousness to fit our rebellion.
We were alienated.
Enemies in our mind.
Alienation began in the mind before it ever showed up in behavior. Thoughts hardened. Assumptions formed. Independence grew. Sin followed.
Outward wicked works flowed from inward misalignment.
Picture two musicians trying to play together while tuned to different standards. One insists he is correct. The other refuses to adjust. The result is tension and noise.
Reconciliation happens when one instrument is brought back into tune.
The cross is where the tuning fork was struck.
Through His blood, peace was made. The cross did not move the standard.
It moved you back into alignment with it.
You were once alienated.
Now reconciled.
Not because you convinced God.
Not because you improved enough.
Not because He changed His watch.
Because Christ shed His blood.
Peace with God is not a feeling. It is a settled reality secured by the Son. When you understand that, hostility gives way to gratitude.
The war is over.
The clock is set.
You are no longer out of sync.
