Colossians 4:1
Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.
Heaven will rearrange everything.
On earth, image often wins.
Packaging persuades.
Promotion elevates.
Man looks at the outward appearance. God looks at the heart.
That means some who were overlooked here will shine there. And some who were celebrated here may stand quietly in the background when eternity reveals what was really inside.
That is the great reversal.
Because of that coming reversal, Paul speaks to those in authority.
Masters, act justly.
Act fairly.
Act with equity.
Why?
Because you are not ultimate.
You also have a Master in heaven.
Power on earth is temporary. Accountability in heaven is permanent.
A boss may sit behind a desk now, but one day he will stand before a throne. And what will be examined will not only be what he did publicly, but what moved him privately. Motive matters. Tone matters. Fairness matters.
Authority is stewardship, not ownership.
But fairness introduces another problem.
When justice is practiced, comparison often awakens.
Jesus addressed that in the story of the vineyard workers. Some were hired early. Others came late. At the end of the day, each received the same wage.
The early workers were thrilled in the morning. Grateful. Relieved. Blessed.
Until they saw what the others received.
Comparison turned joy into complaint.
The wage had not changed.
Their agreement had not changed.
Their opportunity had not changed.
Only their perspective had.
The master asked a piercing question: Why is it wrong for me to be generous?
That question still cuts.
We are content until someone else is blessed. Then suddenly fairness feels unfair.
Comparison is the thief of contentment.
Imagine running your race while constantly turning your head to check the runner beside you. You will stumble. You will slow. You will lose rhythm. The only way to finish strong is to fix your eyes forward.
If you measure your life by what others receive, you will live discouraged. If you measure your life by the faithfulness of God to you, you will live steady.
Masters must remember heaven sees.
Workers must remember heaven rewards.
The field is not about competing rows. It is about faithful harvest.
Do not look around.
Look up.
Because heaven is not grading you on someone else’s assignment.
