Give Yourself to It — 1 Timothy 4:15

1 Timothy 4:15

Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

Paul tells Timothy something that sounds simple but is actually rare.

Meditate on these things. Give yourself wholly to them.

In other words, do not treat the things of God casually. Do not squeeze them into the leftover corners of your life. Step into them fully. Let them have your attention. Let them shape your thinking.

That requires quiet.

Find a quiet place at a quiet time where you can sit with a quiet heart before the Lord. Not rushing. Not multitasking. Just listening, reading, thinking, praying.

That kind of space is hard to find today. Noise follows us everywhere.

Moses understood something about this. He went up the mountain and spent forty days with God. Meanwhile the people at the bottom grew restless.

“Where’s Moses?” they might have asked. “We have meetings for him to attend. Decisions to make. Committees waiting. Responsibilities piling up.”

But Moses did not come down early just to satisfy their schedule.

He stayed until he had the Word of the Lord in his hand.

And when he finally walked down that mountain, he could speak with authority. Not his ideas. Not his opinions. He could say, “Thus saith the Lord.”

That is the difference meditation makes.

When a person spends time with God, it shows. Not in some dramatic display, but in steady growth. Paul says the profiting will appear to all. People begin to notice the change. There is depth where there used to be shallowness. There is clarity where there used to be confusion.

It does not happen overnight.

But when you give yourself wholly to the things of God, the fruit eventually becomes visible.

Quiet time with the Lord always shows up in public life.
