2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Paul knew Timothy struggled with fear.
The young man was facing pressure, opposition, and responsibility that could easily overwhelm someone with a quieter personality. So Paul reminds him of something simple but powerful.
Fear does not come from God.
God gives something very different.
Power.
Love.
And a sound mind.
Power means the strength to do what God asks even when circumstances feel intimidating. Love keeps that strength from becoming harsh or self centered. And a sound mind gives stability so that emotions and pressure do not control every decision.
Together, those three qualities make a person steady.
This is one of the best verses a child can learn early in life. A child who grows up knowing that God gives power, love, and a clear mind will walk through the world with a very different perspective. When fear whispers in the dark, they remember the truth they were taught.
God did not give that fear.
It is a little like a small boat crossing a windy lake. The waves may push against the hull and the wind may blow hard, but if the boat has a strong motor, a steady rudder, and a skilled hand on the wheel, it can keep moving forward.
That is what God provides.
Power to move ahead.
Love to guide the direction.
And a sound mind to keep the course steady.
When those three gifts are at work in a life, fear loses its control.
