Faithful Still — 2 Timothy 2:13

2 Timothy 2:13

If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

Paul begins with a very honest statement.

“If we believe not…”

He is not talking about someone rejecting Christ completely. He is talking about those moments when our faith wobbles a little. Times when we struggle. Times when we question. Times when we feel like we are slipping and sliding more than we are standing firm.

Anyone who has walked with the Lord for a while knows those seasons.

But then Paul adds the part that steadies the whole verse.

“Yet he abideth faithful.”

Think about that. Our faith may fluctuate, but His faithfulness never does. Our confidence may weaken, but His character does not change.

You see, the stability of our relationship with God is not built on the strength of our faith. It is built on the steadiness of His nature.

Imagine a lighthouse standing along a rugged shoreline. Storms come through. Waves crash against the rocks. Wind howls through the night. Sailors out on the water may lose their bearings for a moment, but the lighthouse does not flicker on and off depending on how steady the sailors feel.

The light keeps shining.

That is what Paul is saying about God.

There may be moments when we drift, when we doubt, when our faith feels thin. But God does not wake up one morning less faithful than the day before. He does not become impatient and shut the door because we struggled for a season.

He cannot deny Himself.

Faithfulness is who He is.

And that means whenever we turn back toward Him, we discover something that was true the entire time.

The light was still shining.
