Remember Jesus — 2 Timothy 2:8

2 Timothy 2:8

Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel.

After speaking about soldiers, athletes, farmers, and meditation, Paul brings Timothy back to the center of everything.

Remember Jesus Christ.

Ministry can become busy. Theology can become complicated. A person can spend so much time studying ideas about God that he slowly loses sight of the Person Himself.

Paul knew that danger well.

So he gives Timothy a simple anchor. When life becomes heavy, when the work feels exhausting, when suffering comes, remember Jesus Christ.

Remember that He truly came into history. He was of the seed of David. He walked among people, felt hunger, faced rejection, and carried a cross.

And remember something even greater.

He rose from the dead.

The resurrection changes everything. It means the story did not end at the cross. It means sin was defeated, death was broken, and the One who called us is alive right now.

One of the ways Jesus told His followers to remember Him was through the Table.

When believers gather and take the bread and the cup, they are doing more than repeating a tradition. They are slowing down long enough to remember what Jesus did for them and who He still is.

It is a little like pausing during a long journey to look again at the map. The road may be difficult, but the direction becomes clear again.

Paul’s advice to Timothy is wonderfully simple.

When the work feels heavy, do not forget the One you are serving.

Remember Jesus.
