Sending It Ahead — 1 Timothy 6:19

1 Timothy 6:19

Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

Paul continues the thought he began in the previous verse. When believers use what God has given them to bless others, something unexpected happens.

They are storing up treasure.

Not in a bank account. Not in an investment portfolio. But in a place where nothing fades, breaks, or disappears.

The old saying is true.

You cannot take it with you.

Every possession, every dollar, every investment stays behind when a person leaves this world. The hearse never pulls a trailer full of belongings.

But Paul says something remarkable.

You can send it ahead.

Every act of generosity, every gift given in love, every sacrifice made to help someone else becomes part of a foundation for the life to come. Those moments of giving are not lost. They are remembered in eternity.

Jesus spoke about this same principle when He said to store up treasure in heaven rather than on earth.

Think of a traveler preparing for a long journey. If he ships his supplies ahead to the destination, he arrives to find everything already waiting for him. The provisions he sent earlier now support the life he is about to begin.

Giving works in a similar way.

When we share what God has entrusted to us, we are investing in a future far beyond this present life. We are laying a foundation that reaches into eternity.

Paul says that kind of living helps us lay hold on eternal life.

Not merely knowing about heaven, but living now with heaven already shaping our choices.

The person who learns to give discovers a secret.

The things we release for God’s purposes are never really lost.

They are simply waiting for us on the other side.
