2 Timothy 2:1
Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
Paul knows Timothy well.
Timothy is not the boldest man in the room. He struggles with fear. His health is fragile. At times he seems overwhelmed by the weight of the ministry placed on his shoulders.
If most of us were writing this letter, we might have told Timothy to toughen up. Get stronger. Be more confident. Stop being so sensitive.
But Paul says something very different.
Be strong in grace.
That is an unusual kind of strength. It does not come from personality, natural courage, or intellectual brilliance. It comes from resting in what God has already given.
Grace means God works through people who know they are not impressive.
In fact, those are often the very people He chooses.
A person who thinks everything depends on their own strength will eventually run out of it. But the person who knows they depend on grace keeps finding fresh strength because the source is not themselves.
It is a little like a branch growing from a vine. The branch does not strain to produce life on its own. It simply stays connected. The life flows through it naturally because it remains attached to the source.
That is what Paul wanted Timothy to understand.
God does not bless you because you are the strongest, the smartest, or the most capable person in the room.
He blesses you because He is gracious.
And when that truth settles into your heart, weakness stops being something to hide. It becomes the very place where God’s strength shows up the clearest.
