Hebrews 1:2 — The Son Who Made the Worlds

Hebrews 1:2

Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

The writer of Hebrews now takes us even further into the identity of Jesus. Not only is the Son the One through whom God has spoken, and not only is He the heir of all things, but He is also the One through whom the worlds were made.

That statement alone lifts Jesus far above the category many try to place Him in. He is not merely a teacher, not merely a prophet, not merely a moral example. He is the Creator.

Yet this raises a question that sometimes confuses people. Genesis tells us that God created the heavens and the earth. But the Gospel of John says that everything that exists was made through the Word, and without Him nothing was made that has been made.

So who created the world?

The answer is that all three Persons of the Godhead were involved in creation.

One helpful way to picture it is this. Think of the Father as the Architect, the One who designed and willed creation into existence. Think of the Son as the Contractor, the One through whom the work was carried out. And think of the Holy Spirit as the Craftsman, moving over the waters, bringing form, beauty, and life to what the Father had planned.

The analogy is not perfect, of course. Any comparison we make falls short of the mystery of the Trinity. But it does help us see that creation was not the work of one Person acting alone. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit were all active together.

Creation came from the Fatherby the Son, and through the Spirit.

This truth carries enormous weight when we remember who Jesus is.

The One who walked the dusty roads of Galilee…
The One who sat beside wells and spoke with ordinary people…
The One who allowed nails to be driven through His hands…

He is the same One through whom the universe came into existence.

Every star in the sky, every mountain on the horizon, every breath we take exists because of Him.

And that means something profound for us.

The One who created the universe is also the One who came to redeem it. The hands that shaped the galaxies are the same hands that were stretched out on the cross.

The Creator stepped into His own creation so that the people He made could be brought back to Him.
