Seated for You — Hebrews 10:12

Hebrews 10:12

But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God.

That one word changes everything: sat down.

Under the old system, the priest never sat down because the work was never finished. There was always another sacrifice, another reminder, another day of ministry, another unfinished task waiting at the altar. But Jesus offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, and then He sat down.

That means the work is done.

He is not pacing heaven, wondering whether His sacrifice will hold up. He is not wringing His hands over your latest failure. He is not nervous about whether you will somehow undo what He accomplished at the Cross. He is seated.

Here’s the thing: seated means rest. It means completion. It means settled. Jesus is totally at rest concerning the work He finished for you.

That is hard for us to believe sometimes because we are usually not at rest concerning ourselves. We replay our failures. We second-guess our prayers. We look at our inconsistency and assume the Lord must be as troubled about us as we are. But Hebrews says otherwise. The Son of God offered one sacrifice forever and sat down at the right hand of God.

Think about that. If the carpenter finishes building the table and then sits back, you do not walk over and start hammering random nails into it because you feel nervous. You trust his finished work. In the same way, when Jesus sat down, heaven was declaring that nothing needed to be added.

That does not make sin light. It makes His sacrifice strong.

So when your heart starts running in circles, come back to this verse. The priest of the old covenant stood daily. Jesus sat down. The old work was repeated. His work was finished. The old sacrifices could remind you of sin. His one sacrifice deals with it.

And because He is at rest, you can stop trying to save yourself by worry, guilt, or religious exhaustion. You can come near, breathe deeply, and trust the One who is seated for you.
