Revelation 2:26-27
And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
Revelation 2:28
And I will give him the morning star.
What a contrast this is. Jezebel promised influence through mixture, manipulation, and spiritual corruption. Jesus promises authority through faithfulness. Jezebel’s way said, Join hands with the world, blend truth with error, gather power now. Jesus says, Stay true to Me, and I will give you real authority in My kingdom.
That is always the difference. The flesh wants power now. It wants position now. It wants to control, impress, pressure, and dominate. You see that spirit in Ahab and Jezebel. They joined themselves together for advantage. They used religion as a tool. They reached for land, prestige, and control. Naboth’s vineyard showed what was really in them. They did not serve for the good of others. They took what they wanted.
Jesus says to the overcomer, You do not need to seize power the way the world seizes it. You do not need to manipulate your way into influence. You do not need a corrupt alliance to gain a kingdom. Just keep My works unto the end. I like that. The Lord does not tell His people to scheme. He tells them to endure.
And what does He promise? Power over the nations. Rule with Him. Reign with Him. Share in what the Father has given to the Son. That is astonishing. The very thing Jezebel tried to counterfeit through compromise, Jesus gives as a gift to those who refuse compromise.
Think about that for a moment. If you reach for power your own way, you lose. If you wait for Jesus, you inherit more than you ever could have stolen. That is the wisdom of the kingdom.
Then He says, “I will give him the morning star.” In the Old Testament, Malachi 4:2 speaks of the Sun of righteousness arising with healing in His wings. That is a picture of Christ in open glory. But the morning star appears before the sunrise. It speaks of promise before the full day breaks. It speaks of hope in the darkness. It speaks of Jesus giving Himself to His people before the world sees Him in blazing majesty.
That is precious. The reward is not merely a place to rule. The reward is a Person. Jesus does not only give crowns, kingdoms, and authority. He gives Himself. He is the morning star, the first gleam of coming glory, the assurance that night will not last forever.
Beloved, the world still offers Jezebel’s bargain. Blend in. Compromise a little. Take the shortcut. Gain influence by fleshly means. But Jesus offers something far better. Be faithful. Hold steady. Stay clean in a corrupt age. And when the darkness is deepest, you will find that the morning star belongs to you.
