Revelation 5:13-14
And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.
What a scene this is.
John is not hearing a few voices here and there. He is hearing every creature in heaven, on the earth, under the earth, and in the sea. It is as though all creation finds its true note at once. Everything finally comes into tune. Everything finally says what it was made to say.
People sometimes wonder whether there will be animals in heaven. Will there be dogs, cats, horses, and the pets we loved here? Scripture does not answer every question we may ask about that. But this much is certain. Heaven is not empty of creation. And Jesus Himself returns riding a horse in Revelation 19. That tells me the world to come will not be less full than this one. It will be fuller. Richer. More alive. Nothing there will be thin or lifeless.
I like that.
The whole universe in this passage is not groaning now. It is praising. Not resisting. Not breaking down. Not confused. Praising. Blessing, honour, glory, and power rise to the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever. The One who was rejected on earth is worshiped by all creation. The Lamb who was slain is now openly adored.
That is where history is going.
We look around today and see rebellion, noise, blasphemy, confusion, and sorrow. Men mock Christ. Nations ignore Him. People use His name lightly. But that is not the final sound of the universe. The final sound is worship. The final word is not man’s opinion. The final word is heaven’s agreement concerning Jesus.
And then the four living creatures say, “Amen.”
That little word carries so much weight. It simply means yes. Yes, Lord. Yes, it is true. Yes, You are worthy. Yes, all blessing and glory belong to You. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 1:20 that all the promises of God in Christ are Yes and Amen. Jesus is Himself called the Amen in Revelation 3:14. He is the certainty of every promise God has made.
Think about that.
We live in a world filled with maybe. Maybe things will work out. Maybe the doctor will have a good report. Maybe the job will hold. Maybe people will keep their word. Maybe circumstances will turn. But in Jesus, the promises of God are not maybe. They are yes. Solid. Settled. Sure.
That means when your heart is shaking, you can still say Amen.
When your prayers seem slow, you can still say Amen.
When the road is dark, you can still say Amen.
You are not saying Amen because life is easy. You are saying Amen because the Lamb is worthy.
Then John says the twenty four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever. They do not applaud casually. They fall down. Worship is not entertainment in heaven. It is surrender. It is response. It is the only sane thing to do when the Lamb takes the scroll and authority is seen resting in nail pierced hands.
That is why worship abounds in this chapter. The Lamb slain has taken the book, the title deed to the earth. Control is not in the hands of Caesar, kings, markets, armies, or angry men. Control is in the hands of Jesus Christ.
That will steady you.
Because a lot of our anxiety comes from the fear that things are loose, random, spinning, and out of control. But Revelation pulls back the curtain and says, “No, they are not.” The throne is still set. The Lamb is still central. Heaven is not nervous.
And one day all creation will say so.
Beloved, learn to say Amen now to the One all creation will praise then. Bow your heart before the One before whom the elders fall. Trust the One who holds the scroll. Worship the One who lives forever and ever.
The universe is moving toward a great and glorious yes.
And every child of God will be there to say it.
