Revelation 6:15-16
And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb.
What a scene. The whole world is running. Kings, rich men, commanders, slaves, free men. Every layer of society is brought to the same place. Titles do not help. Money does not help. Power does not help. When the Lamb pours out His wrath, all the things men trusted in collapse.
The irony is sharp. Men who refused to call on the Rock of Ages now cry out to the rocks of the earth. Men who would not bow before Christ now beg creation to hide them from Christ. But rocks cannot save. Mountains cannot cover a guilty soul from the face of Him who sits on the throne.
Then comes that striking phrase: the wrath of the Lamb.
A lamb speaks of meekness and sacrifice. That is what makes this so sobering. The One men rejected in mercy is the One they must face in judgment. The Lamb who was slain is also the Lamb on the throne.
And Revelation 6 makes it plain that His wrath is already underway here. This is not something that begins only halfway through the Tribulation. Verse 16 says clearly that men are hiding from the wrath of the Lamb. Jesus also said in Luke 21:36 to pray that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things.
So how is a person found worthy?
Only by being in Christ.
Not by trying harder. Not by becoming religious enough. Jude 24 says He is able to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy. That is the hope of the believer. The One whose face terrifies the world is the very One we long to see.
Beloved, do not wait until the rocks are your only prayer. Run to the Rock of Ages now. If you hide in Christ today, you will never have to hide from Him then.
