The Voice That Says Go – Revelation 16:1

Revelation 16:1

And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.

Now the command is given.

Up to this point, John has seen the angels, the vials, the smoke filling the temple, and the solemn preparation in heaven. But here the voice speaks, and judgment begins to move. The seven angels are told to go and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.

That tells us something very plainly. The world is not well. Beneath all of its technology, pride, pleasure, and rebellion, it is sick with sin. Carnality has spread like cancer. Perversion has become a plague. Sin has worked its poison into the bloodstream of humanity. And in the Tribulation, God will deal with it.

That is why this chapter is so serious. Sin cannot simply be ignored. It cannot be left untreated forever. It must be judged one way or another.

And really, that leaves every person with two options.

Either sin is dealt with now in this day of grace, as the Lord works on the human heart, or it will be dealt with then in the terrible days of Tribulation judgment. Either I let the Great Physician cut deep into my pride, my rebellion, my stubbornness, and my self will today, or I face the brutal consequences of refusing His mercy.

I think that is the great appeal of the gospel. The Lord is not merely warning us about wrath to come. He is inviting us to healing right now. He is saying, Open your heart. Let Me deal with the disease before the judgment falls. Let Me do the surgery of grace before the world enters the surgery of wrath.

That is a much better way.

Why wait for the bitterness of judgment when forgiveness is being offered freely now. Why harden your heart when Christ stands ready to cleanse it. Why move toward Tribulation when the door of grace is still open.

So this verse is not only an announcement of judgment. It is also, by contrast, a final reminder of mercy. The vials will one day be poured out. But today, the invitation still stands. Come to Christ. Let Him deal with your sin now. Let Him change your heart now. Let Him do His saving work while it is still called today.

Because sin will be judged. The only question is where.
