Revelation 16:17
And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.
When I read this verse, I cannot help but think of two mountains. One is Megiddo. The other is Calvary.
Both are places where the wrath of God is seen. At Megiddo, that wrath falls on a world that has dug in its heels against Him. At Calvary, that wrath fell on the Son, who stepped into the place of guilty men.
Both show the rebellion of man. At Megiddo, men curse God while judgment is falling all around them. At Calvary, men mocked the very One who was dying to save them.
Both are marked by blood. At Megiddo, blood flows in judgment. At Calvary, blood flowed in mercy.
And both come with a cry of completion. At Megiddo, a voice from heaven says, It is done. At Calvary, the Son cried, It is finished.
That is where it gets very personal.
Every man will meet one mountain or the other. He will either stand at Megiddo and face the full weight of wrath, or he will come to Calvary and rest in the finished work of Christ. He will either answer for his own sin, or he will hide himself in the One who already paid for it.
That is the great dividing line. Either wrath remains, or mercy is received. Either I face God on my own, or I come through the Son.
I think that is why Revelation keeps bringing me back to the Cross. All of this thunder, all of this terror, all of this judgment makes Calvary shine even brighter. It reminds me what Jesus saved me from. It reminds me what His blood really means. It reminds me that before heaven ever said, It is done, Jesus already said, It is finished.
So the question is simple, and yet it is everything.
Will you wait for the completion of wrath at Megiddo, or will you rest in the completed work of the Son at Calvary?
Beloved, do not wait for that last day. Run to the Cross now. Take the mercy being offered now. Because the safest place in all the world is still at Calvary, under the blood of Jesus Christ.
