No More Night – Revelation 22:5

Revelation 22:5
And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

John ends this section with one more sweeping promise. There will be no night there. No darkness settling in. No fading of the day. No shadows lengthening across the land. No fear of what comes after sundown. Night, which so often speaks of uncertainty, danger, loneliness, or sorrow, will be gone forever.

And with night gone, every lesser light becomes unnecessary. No candle. No lamp. No sun. The city will not depend on created light because the Lord God Himself will be its light. Warmth and illumination will come, not from the sun, but from the Son. That is the beauty of heaven. Everything good we have known in part here will be found in fullness there, directly from Him.

Think about what that means. Down here, even our brightest days are followed by evening. Even our clearest moments are touched by shadow. Even our strongest joys can be interrupted by heaviness before the day is done. But in that city, nothing dims. Nothing fades. Nothing cools. Nothing darkens. The light of the Lord is constant because His presence is constant.

That means there will be no more spiritual night either. No more confusion. No more wandering through dim seasons. No more trying to make sense of pain in the dark. No more straining to see what the Lord is doing from far away. We will live in the full brightness of His presence, and all that now feels partial will be made plain.

Then John adds, and they shall reign for ever and ever.

That is remarkable. These are the redeemed, the once fallen, the once struggling, the once weak and weary servants of God. And yet in Christ they are brought not only into safety, not only into light, but into shared rule with Him forever. Sin dragged man so low, but grace raises him so high.

This is where the story has been heading all along. No night. No need for lesser lights. No fear. No fading. Just the Lord Himself filling everything with His light, and His people living and reigning in that brightness forever.
