Revelation 19:9

And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

Revelation 19:10

And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

John is overwhelmed. He has just heard about the marriage supper of the Lamb. He has seen the beauty of the bride. He has heard words so weighty, so pure, so glorious, that he collapses before the messenger.

That is understandable.

Heaven has that effect. When glory breaks open in front of you, you do not stand there cool and collected. John falls down.

But the angel stops him immediately. See thou do it not. In other words, Do not worship me. I am just a fellow servant. I serve the same God you serve. I stand in the same stream of devotion. Worship does not stop with the messenger. Worship goes to God alone.

That is such an important moment, because it reminds us that no servant of God, however radiant, however used, however mighty, is ever to become the object of devotion. The angel says, I am not the destination. I am only a servant. Worship God.

And that makes the contrast with Jesus impossible to miss.

When men fell before Jesus in the Gospels, He never corrected them for worshiping Him. Peter fell down before Him in Luke 5. Thomas cried out, My Lord and my God in John 20. Jesus did not say, Stop. I am only an angel. He received worship because He alone is worthy of it.

That matters.

Because it means Jesus is not merely one more messenger from heaven. He is not simply an exalted created being. He is not just another servant pointing the way. He is God come among us. The angel refuses worship because he is a servant. Jesus receives worship because He is the Lord.

Then comes that last line, and it is a jewel: the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

All prophecy, if understood rightly, moves toward Him. That is the pulse inside it. That is the breath inside it. Prophecy is not mainly about satisfying curiosity or building charts that make us feel clever. Prophecy is meant to bear witness to Jesus. It pulls back the curtain so we can see Him more clearly.

That is why a man can study prophecy and still miss the point entirely if he walks away fascinated with timelines but not in love with Christ. The whole purpose is to reveal Jesus. The whole current running through prophecy leads to Him.

Beloved, be careful where your heart lands. It is possible to admire the messenger, obsess over the details, and still fail to bow before the Lord Himself. John is corrected so that we will be too. Worship God.

And that is really the question. When all is said and done, where does your worship stop? At a system. At a teacher. At a movement. At an angel. Or at the throne.

Only one is worthy there.
