Revelation 19:13-14
And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
John sees Jesus riding forth, and one detail catches the eye immediately: He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood.
That blood is everything to me.
It is His blood that cleanses me from what I could never wash away myself. It is His blood that covers my impurity, answers for my guilt, and speaks peace over all my failure. I am not clean because I tried harder. I am not accepted because I finally got my act together. I am clean because Jesus died for me.
That is the wonder of the gospel. The One riding out in glory is the same One who shed His blood in humility. The conquering King is still marked by the sacrifice that redeemed His people. Heaven does not move past Calvary. Even here, in power and victory, He is still the Lamb who gave Himself for us.
And John says, his name is called The Word of God.
That fits perfectly. Jesus is not merely a messenger from God. He is the full expression of God. He is the final Word. If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus. If you want to know how holy God is, look at Jesus. If you want to know how much God loves, look at Jesus. The same One whose robe is marked with blood is Himself the Word of God.
Then John sees the armies of heaven following Him, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
And here we come.
The door of heaven is open, and the people of God ride out with the Lord. We are clothed in white, not because we earned a place in His company, but because His grace has made us clean. We follow Him in purity because He first covered us with His righteousness.
But notice this. We are not coming to win the battle.
He wins the battle.
We are not riding behind Him because He needs reinforcements. We are riding behind Him because the victory belongs to Him alone. We come not as contributors to His triumph, but as witnesses of it. The armies of heaven observe what only the King can do.
I love that, because it keeps everything where it belongs. Salvation was His work. Cleansing was His work. Victory is His work. From beginning to end, Jesus is the hero of the story.
Beloved, that is why there is such rest in following Him. The blood on His robe means your cleansing is settled. The white linen means your acceptance is secure. The open heaven means your future is certain. And the victory ahead means you do not have to live as though everything depends on you.
It depends on Him.
The Word of God rides forth.
And all heaven follows.
