Revelation 22:3
And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him.
The fallout of Adam’s bomb in the Garden of Eden is still felt to this day. Genesis 3:17 through 19 tells us what followed man’s rebellion. The ground was cursed. Thorns appeared. Sweat marked labor. Sorrow entered the human story. Death cast its shadow across every generation. Ever since then, all creation has been living with the effects of that first terrible blast of sin.
But John says there shall be no more curse. That is not a small statement. That is the reversal of everything sin brought in. Every graveyard, every hospital room, every aching body, every broken relationship, every weary day at work, every tear filled night traces back to that curse. We live in a world still shaking from Adam’s bomb.
But not forever.
In heaven, the curse is gone, and in its place is the throne of God and of the Lamb. What rebellion shattered, the reign of God will fully restore. What was poisoned in Eden will be made whole in eternity. The throne means sin will never rise again, sorrow will never take root again, and death will never cast another shadow.
Then John adds, and his servants shall serve him.
I love that, because heaven is not inactivity. It is not floating around in some vague existence. It is life as it was meant to be. The abilities, desires, interests, and inclinations the Lord placed in His people will finally be fully and freely expressed in His presence. There will be no financial pressure, no time shortage, no fatigue, no dread, no frustration. Service there will not feel like dragging yourself into a job you cannot stand. It will be the joy of saying, This is what I was made for.
That is where this whole story is heading. No more curse. No more thorns. No more weariness clinging to everything. Just the throne of God, the presence of the Lamb, and the glad service of redeemed people doing exactly what they were created to do.
