The Door Is Still Open – Revelation 22:12-14

Revelation 22:12-14

And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

When Jesus says, “I come quickly,” He is not speaking casually. He is reminding us that history is moving toward a Person, not merely toward an event. The One who stands at the end is the same One who stood at the beginning. Alpha and Omega. First and last. Before anything started, He was there. After all rebellion is put down and every tear is wiped away, He will still be there.

That matters because people have always tried to make salvation feel tangled and heavy. Men pile on rules. Systems. Measurements. Standards. They hand people a ladder and say, “Climb.” But Jesus keeps bringing us back to something much more direct. In John 6:28-29, when the crowd asked about the works of God, He answered by pointing them to one work above all: believe on Him whom the Father has sent.

That is where so many people miss the heart of it. They think the issue is clothing, diets, customs, or checklists. But the issue is Christ. Always Christ. The doorway into life has never been human performance. It has always been faith in the Son.

You see it on the cross. A dying thief had no time to clean up his past. No chance to prove himself. No opportunity to build a record of religious success. He simply turned and said, “Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom” Luke 23:42. And that very day, Jesus promised him paradise. That man came in at the last possible hour, not because he had earned anything, but because he believed.

You see it again when Peter was sinking. He did not offer a polished prayer. He did not present a theological statement. He just cried, “Lord, save me” Matthew 14:30. And that was enough. Not because the words were magical, but because the cry was aimed at the right Person.

In one sense, it grows simpler still. Romans 10:9 says that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. There is something so strong and so tender in that word, Lord. When a man truly says “Lord,” he is no longer negotiating. He is yielding. He is not advising Jesus. He is trusting Him.

And that is really the dividing line. Not, “Have you managed your image?” Not, “Have you impressed religious people?” But, “What have you done with Jesus Christ?” The city John sees at the end of Revelation is entered by the blessed. And the blessed are not those who brag in themselves. They are those who have come under the rule of the King.

It is almost shocking how open the invitation still is. A thief could come. A sinking disciple could come. A broken sinner can come today. The gate of the city is not opened by human boasting. It opens for those who call Him Lord and mean it.

So do not complicate what heaven has made plain. Look to Jesus. Trust Jesus. Call upon Jesus. The One who is coming quickly is also the One who saves completely.
