Jehovah Jireh – Genesis 22:14

Genesis 22:14

And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.

Abraham names that place Jehovah jireh.

The Lord will provide.

The Lord will see.

Both fit. Both are true.

God saw exactly what Abraham needed, and God provided exactly what Abraham needed. And that is still the way the Lord works. He is never blind to the need, and He is never late with the provision.

What really blesses me here is that the place of deepest testing became the place of clearest revelation. Abraham came to that mountain carrying sorrow, tension, and questions he could not possibly answer. But he walked away knowing God in a deeper way than he knew Him before.

That is often how it happens.

We want God to show Himself in the easy places. But so often it is on the hard mountain, in the painful place, in the place where we do not know how this can possibly work out, that we discover He really is Jehovah jireh.

And if I ever doubt that, there is one mountain I need to keep looking toward.

Calvary.

If I start questioning whether God sees me, whether He cares, whether He will provide, I need to go there. I need to look again at the cross. Because on that mountain, I see once and for all that God saw my greatest need and did not turn away from it. He met it completely in His Son.

That is where His heart is seen most clearly.

So yes, God provided a ram for Abraham. But the greater provision would come later, on that same mountain region, when He gave the Lamb for us all. And from that point on, whenever I wonder whether God will come through, I need to remember where He already has.

Jehovah jireh.

The Lord sees.

The Lord provides.

And the place where that is seen most clearly is still Mt. Moriah.
