Genesis 24:59-60
And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham’s servant, and his men. And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto her, Thou art our sister, be thou the mother of thousands of millions, and let thy seed possess the gate of those which hate them.
This is such a tender scene. Rebekah is leaving everything familiar behind. Her home. Her family. The life she has always known. And as she goes, they bless her.
In other words, they are saying, “May the hand of God be on your life. May you be fruitful. May you be strong. May no enemy prevail against you.”
I love the timing of that blessing because it came as she was leaving. Not when she was staying where it felt safe. Not when everything was comfortable and predictable. It came as she stepped into the unknown.
That is often how it works with the Lord.
Sometimes the blessing of God becomes most visible when we finally say yes to the road He sets before us. Rebekah had already said, “I will go.” Now the blessing is spoken over her as she begins the journey. There is something about obedience that puts a soul in the place where God’s promises start to mean even more.
And is that not true for us as well? We have said yes to One we have not yet seen with our eyes. We have set our hearts toward our Bridegroom. We are on the way, and along the way the Lord keeps strengthening us with His promises.
The world may look threatening at times. The future may feel uncertain. The road may stretch longer than we expected. But the heart of the Lord toward His people has not changed. His desire is not that the enemy would master you, but that you would stand in His strength and walk in His victory. As Paul says in Romans 8:37, “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”
So here is the picture.
A young woman leaves home with tears in her eyes and promise over her head. She does not know every detail ahead, but she goes forward under blessing. That is a beautiful way to travel.
And that is how the Lord sends His people too.
Not abandoned.
Not forgotten.
Not sent out empty.
He sends us forward with promise. He sends us forward with His hand upon us. He sends us forward with the assurance that what stands against us will not have the final word.
Beloved, when the Lord calls you onward, do not be afraid of the unfamiliar road. If He is the One sending you, He is also the One blessing you. And the blessing of God is greater than the hostility of men, stronger than the uncertainty of the future, and steadier than your own trembling heart.
