Ephesians 6:11
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Paul does not say, “Discuss the armor.”
He does not say, “Admire the armor.”
He says, Put it on.
The Christian life is not a retreat center. It is not group therapy. It is not a spiritual slumber party where we sit in circles and process our feelings. It is a battleground.
And you do not go to war in your pajamas.
If the men who stormed Normandy had stepped onto those beaches in slippers and nightshirts, history would have ended differently. They landed clothed for combat because they understood something vital: the enemy was real.
Paul assumes the same reality. There is a devil. There are wiles. There are schemes. The attacks are subtle, clever, strategic. The word wiles speaks of calculated methods, like a hunter studying patterns before setting a trap.
The enemy does not always roar. Sometimes he whispers.
He questions.
He distracts.
He flatters.
He discourages.
And the saint who is unarmed is the saint who is vulnerable.
Notice Paul says the whole armor of God. Not partial truth. Not selective obedience. Not favorite doctrines. The whole armor.
It is possible to know Scripture and still neglect righteousness. It is possible to talk about faith and still leave the shield on the rack. It is possible to believe in salvation and yet walk carelessly without readiness.
Armor is not decorative. It is defensive and decisive.
Picture a firefighter standing outside a burning building. He does not pause to debate whether the heat feels intense. He does not analyze his emotional state. He puts on the gear. Helmet. Coat. Boots. Mask. He dresses according to the danger.
So must we.
You do not put on armor because you feel strong.
You put it on because you know the battle is real.
The purpose of the armor is simple: that you may be able to stand.
Stand when temptation presses.
Stand when accusation whispers.
Stand when culture mocks.
Stand when discouragement weighs heavy.
God has not called you to collapse. He has not called you to retreat inward. He has equipped you to stand firm.
The issue is not whether armor exists. The issue is whether you will put it on.
Life is not a playground.
It is not a bonding meeting.
It is war.
Dress accordingly.
