Ephesians 6:14
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth…
Loins speak of the hidden part of a man’s life. The unseen. The private. The place no one else monitors.
Truth belongs there.
When David should have been in battle, he stayed home. Armor off. Guard down. One look led to one lie. One lie led to another. Soon he was not only covering sin, he was covering a cover up.
A year later he wrote in Psalm 32:
When I kept silence, my bones waxed old…
Day and night thy hand was heavy upon me…
Silence rotted him from the inside.
The safest place for a warrior is not on the couch. It is on the front line. When you step away from truth, you do not step into rest. You step into danger.
Picture a belt around a soldier’s waist. It holds everything together. Remove it, and the rest of the armor loosens. Truth does that for the soul. It stabilizes everything else.
If the private life is dishonest, the public life will eventually collapse.
Stand. Bind yourself with truth.
Ephesians 6:14
…and having on the breastplate of righteousness.
The breastplate protects the heart.
Righteousness simply means doing what is right before God. Not pretending. Not performing. Just walking honestly.
There is freedom in that.
Hearts grow heavy when they are unguarded. Sad hearts. Hard hearts. Defensive hearts. Much of it traces back to neglected righteousness.
Does righteousness mean you will never feel conviction? No.
But there is a difference between conviction and condemnation.
In 1 John 3:20, we are told our own heart can condemn us. In Revelation 12:10, Satan is called the accuser.
Condemnation pushes you away from God. It whispers, “What’s the use?” It silences prayer. It drains hope.
Conviction draws you toward God. It says, “Come back.” It invites confession. It restores fellowship.
One voice drives you from the light.
The other draws you into it.
Imagine a soldier entering battle with his chest exposed. One strike and he falls. Now imagine him fully armored, shield up, breastplate secured. The arrows may fly, but his heart is protected.
Truth in the hidden place.
Righteousness over the heart.
That is how you stand.
