Held Together – Colossians 1:17

Colossians 1:17

And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Before all things.

Before matter.
Before motion.
Before magnets push away from each other.

And by Him all things consist.

Coulomb’s Law tells us that like charges repel. Take two magnets and press their positive ends together. You will feel resistance immediately. They push away. That is the rule woven into nature.

Yet inside every atom, positively charged protons sit tightly packed together in the nucleus. By simple electrical logic, they should burst apart.

What keeps them there?

Scientists describe forces. They assign names. They write equations. But at the deepest level, the question remains: why does it hold?

Scripture answers plainly.

By Him all things consist.

The atom remains intact because Christ sustains it. The stars do not scatter because Christ wills their cohesion. The earth does not dissolve because He holds it in place.

And one day, He will release it.

2 Peter 3:10

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Long before nuclear physics, Peter spoke of elements melting with fervent heat. If the force binding the atom were withdrawn, matter itself would unravel.

Everything solid would dissolve.

Isaiah 65:17

For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

Not only will it disappear.
It will be replaced.
Even memory will be healed.

That changes how you look at your house, your tools, your projects. Fix them. Paint them. Care for them. Be faithful. But never confuse stewardship with permanence.

The nails in the wall are being held together by Christ.
The wood in the frame is being sustained by Christ.
The ground beneath your feet exists because He allows it.

And here is the part that steadies the heart.

The One holding protons together is holding you together.

When your emotions feel like opposing magnets.
When your thoughts feel like they are pushing apart.
When your family feels fragile.

By Him all things consist.

You are not self sustained.

You are Christ sustained.

There is a stronger force than anything pulling you apart.

And it has a name.
