His Nature in Everything – Colossians 3:17

Colossians 3:17

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Paul sweeps the whole of life into one sentence.

Whatever you do.

In word.
In deed.

That covers conversations, decisions, habits, tone, work ethic, reactions. It includes the visible and the unseen.

Do it in the name of the Lord Jesus.

To act “in someone’s name” means you carry their character with you. Their reputation. Their spirit. Their way of doing things.

Think of an ambassador. When an ambassador speaks, he is not merely sharing personal opinion. He represents the nation that sent him. His tone, his conduct, even his posture reflects the authority behind him.

So it is with us.

We carry the name of Jesus into offices, classrooms, kitchens, highways, hospitals, construction sites, and boardrooms.

The question becomes simple:

Does this sound like Him?
Does this reflect Him?
Would this make Him recognizable?

That changes how we speak when we are irritated.
How we work when no one is watching.
How we respond when we are misunderstood.

There is no small moment in a life lived in His name.

And Paul anchors it in gratitude.

Giving thanks.

Gratitude keeps the heart soft. It reminds us we are not trying to earn His name. We have already been given it. Thanksgiving protects us from pride when things go well and from resentment when they do not.

When Christ becomes the reference point for everything, ordinary life becomes sacred space.

Not dramatic.

Not flashy.

Just faithful.

Whatever you do.

Let it carry His nature.

And let gratitude flavor it all.
