Hold Fast to the Head – Colossians 2:19

Colossians 2:19

And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

Paul exposes the real danger.

It is not merely strange visions.
It is not merely impressive language.

It is this.

Not holding the Head.

The Head is Christ.

He is the source.
He is the authority.
He is the life of the Body.

A body disconnected from its head does not become mystical.

It becomes lifeless.

Growth does not come from novelty. It does not come from private interpretations or spiritual experiments. It comes from nourishment flowing from the Head through every joint and ligament.

When Christ is central, the Body grows. When Christ is sidelined, confusion multiplies.

There is a subtle shift that often happens in mystical settings. The conversation moves from, “What does the Scripture say?” to, “What does this Scripture mean to you?”

That sounds humble. It sounds inclusive. But it quietly relocates authority.

Meaning is no longer discovered.

It is invented.

But truth is not personal preference. It is not elastic. It is not shaped by feeling.

The question is not what this passage means to me.

The question is what it means.

Period.

Because if meaning is fluid, then Christ is no longer Head. Experience becomes head. Emotion becomes head. Group consensus becomes head.

And the Body cannot grow that way.

Paul told Timothy to study carefully, to handle the Word accurately. Why? Because when the Word is handled loosely, Christ is handled loosely.

When Christ is honored as Head, nourishment flows. The Body is knit together. Growth happens. Stability follows.

Real unity is not built on shared impressions.

It is built on shared submission to Christ.

So hold fast.

Not to novelty.
Not to experience.
Not to personalities.

Hold fast to the Head.

Because from Him comes life.
