1 Timothy 2:6
Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
Paul keeps tightening the focus.
There is one God.
One Mediator.
And now he tells us what that Mediator did.
He gave Himself.
No one forced Him. No one cornered Him. No one negotiated the price down. He gave Himself.
A ransom is not a sentimental word. It is the language of captivity. It assumes someone is bound. Held. Unable to free themselves.
And the price is not small.
Christ did not send a payment.
He became the payment.
That reshapes how we talk about God.
People casually throw around phrases like “God damn him” as if condemnation is His instinct. But Scripture tells a different story. God is not eager to damn. He is eager to redeem.
Peter says He is not willing that any should perish. That is not weakness. That is mercy.
The cross proves it.
If damnation were His desire, there would have been no ransom. No incarnation. No nails. No empty tomb.
The ransom was for all.
That does not mean all receive it. A ransom must be accepted. But it does mean no one is excluded from the offer. The door is not cracked open for a few. It is thrown wide.
And Paul adds, to be testified in due time.
History is not random. The cross happened at the right moment. The message spreads in the right season. Even your own hearing of it was not accidental.
There was a time appointed for the ransom to be paid.
And there is a time appointed for it to be heard.
The Son of God did not stand at a distance shouting instructions.
He stepped into the cell and paid the cost.
That is the heart of God.
