What Really Reaches Heaven – Revelation 18:5

Revelation 18:5

For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.

There is something striking here. Back in Genesis 11:4, the builders of Babel said they would build a tower whose top would reach unto heaven. Man has always wanted to climb upward on his own terms, make a name for himself, and prove he can rise without God. But in the end, their tower did not reach heaven.

Their sin did.

That is the sobering point. Babylon always promises ascent. It offers progress, greatness, brilliance, culture, commerce, and power. It tells man he can rise higher and higher until he needs nothing beyond himself. But heaven is not impressed by human pride. The only thing that rises from Babylon is the stench of rebellion.

And God hath remembered her iniquities.

That does not mean God forgot them and then suddenly recalled them. It means the day of reckoning has come. The record is full. The measure is complete. What men excused, celebrated, and built into a system, God has seen all along. Not one act of arrogance. Not one corrupt bargain. Not one blasphemous boast has escaped His notice.

That is true not only of Babylon, but of every proud heart. We can build careers, reputations, ministries, and kingdoms that look impressive on earth. But if they are built in self glory, they do not rise as worship. They rise as iniquity.

Thank God there is another way to reach heaven. Not by towers, but by a Savior. Not by human striving, but by the blood of Christ. Babylon says, build higher. Jesus says, come humbly. Babylon says, make a name for yourself. Jesus says, lose yourself and follow Me.

Beloved, the question is not how high something looks on earth. The question is what heaven says about it. Better to bow low at the feet of Jesus than stand tall in the pride of Babylon.
